Teachers of multicultural literature at both the high school and college level will find many valuable essays in this collection. This also would be useful for a teacher-training course. The essays range from first-person accounts of classroom experiences to analyses of texts that teachers could present to their own students. The overall tone is teacher-to-teacher discussion, with a good combination of theory and practice.

This book is an excellent introduction to the broad topic of Roman pottery. There are many fine books on Greek pottery (note particularly the World of Art series by Boardman), but few scholarly overviews of the artefacts and study of Roman pottery that highlight how valuable it is for interpreting and understanding Roman society. This easily accessible book, written clearly and with good illustrations, complements Greene's "Archaeology of the Roman Economy", a must for any student of Rome. I had previously borrowed this book for study, but found it so valuable and enjoyable that I had to buy it through amazon.com!

Roy Campanella spent half of his life in a wheelchair after he was paralyzed in a car accident that ended his Hall of Fame baseball career. One of the things that always impressed me about Campy was that when he was a rookie catcher with the Brooklyn Dodgers at the age of 24, he had already been playing professional baseball in the Negro Leagues for nine years. "Roy Campanella: Major-League Champion" by Carol Greene is part of the Rookie Biography series for very young readers. Filled with black & white photographs covering Campy's entire life (including his recovering in the hospital after the accident), Greene focuses on the challenges he faced in becoming a Major League ballplayer, his great success with the Dodgers including three Most Valuable Player Awards, and the final challenge of coping with living the rest of his life in a wheelchair. The story of Roy Campanella's life always reminds me of that of Lou Gehrig; the great athlete who is career is ended by a tragic twist of fate. Greene does a nice job of showing that Campy was not only a great ballplayer, but a great man as well. This is an ideal book to introduce young readers to Campy's life.

As a high school student applying to very selective colleges, I have read through every "how to get into college" that I could get my hands on. This one is simply the most comprehensive and the best. Many of these types of books talk down to the reader, trying to sweeten the application process. This one does not over-simplify. It gave me a really good sense of the "big picture"--how what you do in high school affects your admissions chances at the big-name schools. I only wish I had read it when I was in ninth grade!

this book is excellent for special needs children. they can actually sit through an entire book, which can be quite an accomplishment. in addition, the ending of the book says OUCH! that's something all children know the meaning of!

Jennifer Greene's "Single Dad" was extremely well written. It's about a single dad with three kids,and recently divorced. His youngest daughter, "Killer", comes up with a scheme of stealing things from a woman's, Ariel, antique store, just so her dad can keep having to meet her. I couldn't put this book down, and I'm not a big fan on romance. I kept imagining Josh, the single dad, and his big melting chocolate colored eyes gazing into Ariel's. Both aren't looking for marriage, but find too much magic..

I've never been a big fan of series romance books (ie. Harlequin, etc.) because I always felt as though they don't go enough into depth or give any background information on the characters. This book was an exception! From the first page, I was hooked and really liked the characters - Max and Kitt.

The story starts out with Max (a peach farmer) seeing Kitt's car pulled off to the side of the road. Sensing that someone might be in trouble, he pulls over to check out the situation. Kitt is in the back seat in labor. Not knowing how much time they had, Max stays with her through the night and helps deliver the baby. A bond forms between the two of them that neither one can forget. A month or so later, Kitt shows up at Max's farm to thank him for his kindness. He ends up offering her a job to help her get back on her feet and things go on from there.

Both have been hurt in relationships in the past and are leery of becoming involved again. Unlike some romances I have read, you can relate to their conflict. Also, Jennifer Greene writes things from a man's point-of-view excellently! Max seems very "real" and his actions are believable. I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future.

I was given a chance to read this book and now I want to tell everyone else to read it as well. This was an excellent book. I could not put it down. The story line is unpredictable and exciting. If you have been looking for a new sci-fi/fantasy story to get into, this should be it. There is no room for boredom because you will start to ask questions you never even thought about asking.
